NZ MP’s viral hit speech
Pakuranga MP Maurice Williamson caused a sesnation in New Zealand’s Parliament with his impassioned speech during the third reading of the marriage equality bill. He had MPs roaring with laughter and his four-minute oration has over 1.3 milion hits in YouTube.
His hearfelt irreverence is just one of the reasons it is so inspiring – he quite simply says it as it is and has no time for those who cite rain and floods as evidence of celestial wrath at gay marriage.
“One of the messages that I had was that this bill was the cause of our drought. Well, in the Pakuranga electorate this morning it was pouring with rain. We had the most enormous big gay rainbow across my electorate!”
The above statement has become Australia’s (sic) International Business Times quote of the year. There are certain concillors in the UK, and no doubt elsewhere, who could do worse than take heed!
