The Orchestra in my Mouth
In a highly engaging and entertaining TEDx talk, beatboxer Tom Thum demonstrates just how amazing and flexible the human voice is.
We are all born with the same equipment and yet the infinite variety of the human voice is a true wonder. Its range, its versatility and its power makes it possibly the most useful aspect of our being. You only have to think of the wealth of languages around the world and the sounds within those languages which go to make up words to see how incredible it is given the relative small size of the larynx.
So when a skilled beat boxer uses their voice to create even more sound it is worth remembering that all they are using is their breath, their vocal folds (or chords) and their articulators (tongue, lips and teeth) and enhancing that sound through a microphone.
