The Art of Performance Poetry
Sarah Kay is a spoken word poet and the founder of project VOICE – an organisation that uses spoken word poetry to improve literacy and empower people. Her TED talk is an enchanting combination of performance and public speaking delivered with captivating honesty. It is a beautifully crafted and meticulously prepared simple message. It is her story.
She states ‘it’s not just the adage ‘write what you know,’ it’s about gathering up all of the knowledge and experience you’ve collected up to now to help you dive into the things you don’t know’ – a maxim that applies to public speaking and presenting too.
This is a perfect demonstration of how personal energy and enthusiasm for a subject can be contagious on an audience.
