It’s the little things that matter…
Nigel Marsh is the author of Fat, Forty and Fired, Overworked and Underlaid and Fat, Fifty and Fired-Up – he is also the co founder of Earth Hour and it is his view that work-life balance is too important to be left in the hands of your employer.
He sets out, in this extremely engaging talk, an ideal day balanced between family time, personal time and productivity and offers some strong encouragement to make it happen.
It really is extremely simple and it is, and this is the important part, a personal choice. The clichés are true – we can’t take it with us, there are no pockets in a shroud, there really is no point being the richest person in the cemetery – it is the simple things in life that can bring the deepens happiness.
We need to take control of our lives and if we don’t, someone else will take control of them for us. It is our choice and we need to remember that each day is a day that we are not getting back. It is not a dress rehearsal for the main act. It is the main act. Don’t be fooled – dress down Friday is not really achieving a work-life balance.
Marsh urges us, rightly so, to do something now, something small that will enrich our life and that of those we love and who love us. It’s not about dramatic upheaval but rather it’s small investment in the right place
